Homes across Ireland
Solar panels, planned for your home.
Solar panels for homes in Ireland, planned around your roof, electricity use and any future battery, EV charger or electric heating.

Start with your building
Start with your roof and how you use electricity.
From its Co. Louth location, WRB checks your roof and electricity use before designing and installing a home solar panel system for installations in the Republic of Ireland.
We start with what you know about the property or site, your current setup, how you use energy and what you want to improve. That helps us recommend equipment for a clear reason.
What a good plan should help you do
- Buy less electricity from the grid
- Use more of your own solar electricity
- Allow for a future battery, EV charger or electric heating
What we need to know
You do not need every detail before getting in touch. Share what you know and we’ll tell you what matters next.
Start with your roof and electricity use
A good solar design starts with two questions: what can the roof safely hold, and when does the home use electricity? Roof direction, shade, condition and available space affect how much solar electricity you can produce. Bills and smart-meter readings can help us size the system using real information rather than guesswork.
Plan the electrical work at the same time
We check where the inverter can go, how cables can run and whether your fuse box or other electrical safety work needs attention. These details are agreed before installation.
Choose what to do with spare solar electricity
You may be able to store it in a battery, charge an EV or heat water. None is a must-have. The right option depends on when you use electricity, your budget and your future plans.
Common questions
When should I apply for an SEAI solar grant?
Apply and wait for your grant offer before installation starts. Eligibility and the approved amount depend on the current SEAI scheme and your property. See our grants guide for the official sources.
Will solar panels work on my roof?
We look at the usable space, roof direction, shade, condition, your fuse box and how you use electricity. We check these before recommending a system.
How many solar panels do I need?
It depends on how much safe roof space you have, how much electricity the panels may produce and when you use electricity. Plans for a battery, EV charger or electric heating can also affect the size.
Will my solar panels work during a power cut?
Most solar panel systems switch off when the grid goes down. Keeping power on requires compatible equipment and a separate backup circuit designed for that purpose. Solar panels or a battery do not provide backup automatically.
What paperwork should an Irish solar installation include?
Confirm the applicable ESB Networks connection process, electrical certification, commissioning records and handover with your installer. An SEAI-supported domestic installation also requires a post-works BER before grant payment.
Can I receive payments for spare solar electricity?
Eligible exports can be credited by your electricity supplier under Irish microgeneration arrangements. The tariff and payment method depend on your supplier, metering and registered connection.

Installing solar in Ireland
Plan the paperwork with the system.
For grant-supported work, check the contractor’s relevant SEAI registration and wait for the grant offer before installation. Agree the applicable ESB Networks connection route, electrical certification and commissioning records in your proposal.
A domestic SEAI solar installation also needs a post-works BER before grant payment. Your handover should explain the equipment, controls and support arrangements.
